Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Cabinet of Ministers Nokerguly Atagulyyev has said that educational cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation continues growing.
The statement was made during a recent session of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
Atagulyyev revealed that more than 56,000 Turkmen students are currently pursuing higher education in Russian universities - a figure he described as a record and a reflection of strong bilateral ties in academia. He also expressed appreciation to the Russian government for offering special quotas for Turkmen applicants, which he said contribute significantly to the success of this large-scale academic exchange.
Beyond higher education, the two nations are strengthening collaboration at the school level:
The Turkmen-Russian Pushkin School in Ashgabat serves over 1,800 students.
Dozens of schools across Turkmenistan offer Russian-language instruction.
Russian is taught as a compulsory subject in all general education schools in Turkmenistan.
Atagulyyev also praised Russia’s reciprocal efforts to promote Turkmen culture and language. He cited the example of the Magtymguly Secondary School in Russia’s Astrakhan region, where the Turkmen language is part of the curriculum.
He concluded by reaffirming Turkmenistan’s commitment to further expanding educational cooperation and strengthening cultural and academic ties with Russia.
