President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has taken part in a foundation-laying ceremony for a new large-scale fertilizer production complex at the Turkmenabat Chemical Plant in Lebap Province.
In his speech, President Berdimuhamedov underscored the strategic importance of the chemical industry as a cornerstone of the national economy and a vital component of Turkmenistan’s long-term economic diversification policy, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
He noted that the country is transitioning from raw material exports to value-added production, prioritizing high-tech, advanced industrial development.
The new fertilizer complex is being developed by the State Concern “Turkmenhimiya” in cooperation with South Korean engineering firm Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd.
Once completed, the facility will produce up to 350,000 tons of superphosphate and 100,000 tons of ammonium sulfate annually-two widely used mineral fertilizers essential for modern agriculture. The plant is expected to significantly boost domestic production capacity and contribute to food security and agricultural productivity.
President Berdimuhamedov congratulated all those involved in the project, calling it a landmark moment in the growth of Turkmenistan’s industrial base, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting science-driven and export-oriented industries.
