From October 4 to 6, the city of Bielefeld, Germany, will host the World Junior Mental Arithmetic Championship, bringing together young mental math talents from around the world, including a team representing Turkmenistan.
Competitors will be divided into three age groups and will face a series of challenging mental calculation tasks, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.
These will range from basic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to more advanced problems involving factorization and working with fractions. All solutions must be delivered orally and from memory within a strict two-hour limit.
Turkmenistan’s team earned its place at the championship through a demanding national selection process held in April 2025. The competition tested participants under conditions similar to those of the World Championship, with only those who solved all problems within the allotted time qualifying to compete internationally.
Since its launch in 2008, the World Junior Mental Arithmetic Championship has grown to attract more than 100 participants each year from nearly 20 countries. The event not only celebrates the skill of mental arithmetic but also fosters a vibrant international community of young mathematicians eager to share knowledge and experience.
