Turkmenistan Boosts Renewable Energy and Digitalizes Oil and Gas Sector

Turkmenistan is accelerating projects in renewable energy while modernizing its oil and gas industry through digital and automated technologies.

In remote villages and pastoral farms, solar panels and wind turbines are increasingly providing electricity for lighting, pumps, and household appliances, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.

Authorities are also considering local production of solar panels with foreign investment, which could reduce the country’s reliance on imports, particularly from Asia.

The oil and gas sector is adopting “smart” wells and “digital” fields to boost production efficiency and lower operational costs. Experts estimate that these innovations could cut expenses by up to 20 percent.

A new academic building at the State Energy Institute was recently inaugurated, equipped with 132 kW of solar panels and a 30 kW wind installation. The facility will train specialists in solar, wind, and bioenergy, as well as robotics and artificial intelligence applications in energy.

Turkmenistan has also signed cooperation agreements with Germany’s Technical University of Clausthal and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg to advance scientific research in the energy sector.

The country’s energy modernization program aims to conserve natural resources, improve environmental conditions, and strengthen national energy security.
