Turkmenistan Debuts First Turkmen-Language Staging of Azerbaijani Composer’s Classic Operetta

Turkmenistan has unveiled its first Turkmen-language staging of “Husband and Wife,” the iconic operetta by legendary Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibayli.

The premiere took place at the Main Drama Theater named after Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashi in Ashgabat, The Caspian Post informs via the Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkmenistan.

Originally written in 1909 and regarded as the first operetta of the East, the production captivated the audience, drawing keen interest and lengthy applause.

After the performance, representatives of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkmenistan and their families met with the cast and presented them with flowers.

Hajibayli’s artistic legacy remains deeply rooted in Turkmenistan’s cultural landscape. Alongside “Husband and Wife,” Ashgabat theaters continue to successfully stage his celebrated operetta “Arshin Mal Alan,” which enjoys enduring popularity and praise from both local and international theatergoers.
