Turkmenistan has launched construction of a new carbamide production plant in Turkmenbashi, Balkan region, as part of a major expansion of its oil and gas chemical industry.
The plant is designed to produce 1.2 million tons of carbamide annually, with construction involving technological cooperation with partners from Japan and Türkiye, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The project will integrate modern production methods while adhering to strict environmental standards. The facility is scheduled for commissioning by February 2030.
This new plant will complement the existing Garabogazkarbamid plant, operational since 2018, and strengthen Turkmenistan’s presence in international carbamide markets. Beyond boosting production, the project is expected to drive local economic growth, create hundreds of jobs, and stimulate infrastructure development in the Balkan region.
The project follows broader industrial cooperation agreements between Turkmenistan and Japan, including ammonia, carbamide, and polymer facilities in the Gyýanly settlement. Contracts were signed in December 2025 after discussions between President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, aiming to modernize the country’s chemical industry and expand production capacity.
Earlier, Kazakhstan also advanced a carbamide project, with KMG PetroChem and the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan initiating scientific verification of a new production facility.
