Russian carrier Azimuth Airlines has submitted an official request to aviation authorities for permission to launch new international routes from Rostov-on-Don to the Uzbek cities of Samarkand and Andijan.
A formal request was made to the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) for authorization to launch a series of international routes from Platov Airport in Rostov-on-Don, which has been closed to commercial passenger flights since 2022, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The airline's request is outlined in official documents prepared for an upcoming session of the Interagency Commission on the Admission of Air Carriers, published on Rosaviatsiya’s website.
According to the submission, Azimuth is seeking approval to operate scheduled flights from Rostov-on-Don to the following international destinations:
Samarkand and Andijan (Uzbekistan)
Aktobe and Atyrau (Kazakhstan)
Jeddah and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia)
Dubai (United Arab Emirates)
In addition to regular services, the airline has applied for four charter routes, primarily targeting Central Asian and Gulf destinations. These include:
Mineralnye Vody - Samarkand - Rostov-on-Don
Sochi - Samarkand - Rostov-on-Don
Two charter routes to the UAE
The proposal marks a potential step toward reviving international air travel in southern Russia, with Azimuth positioning itself to reestablish Rostov-on-Don as a regional aviation hub. Platov Airport has remained closed since 2022 amid regional security concerns related to the ongoing geopolitical situation.
If approved, the new routes could boost connectivity across Eurasia and strengthen Azimuth’s presence in international markets.
