The body of a Turkish businessman previously reported missing has been discovered in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara region, with investigators alleging involvement by his compatriots.
Four suspects were detained in Istanbul as part of a joint law enforcement operation between the two countries, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The remains of 49-year-old Kadir Tunc were found on October 17, 2025, by a shepherd in a steppe area of the Karaulbazar district. The body had been partially covered with soil. Relatives had earlier reported him missing in Türkiye. A forensic examination determined that he died from stab wounds, and significant decomposition had occurred by the time of discovery.
Investigators identified a vehicle seen in the area on the day of the suspected crime. The car had been rented by a 51-year-old Turkish citizen living in Istanbul. Blood traces found inside the vehicle matched the victim’s DNA. Samples sent from Uzbekistan were also confirmed through comparison with DNA provided by Tunc’s children.
Authorities established that on May 28, 2025, the main suspect met with Tunc in Uzbekistan to discuss opening a restaurant. By June 3, the businessman’s family filed a missing persons report.
During questioning, the primary suspect claimed the conflict stemmed from $20,000 transferred for the joint project and not returned after the deal collapsed. He said an argument escalated into a fight and later claimed he could not recall all details, but found his partner severely injured. The body was reportedly transported to a remote area and buried before the suspects returned to Türkiye.
The case has been forwarded to court, and the investigation remains ongoing.
