Pakistani leather industry representatives are setting their sights on Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region as a potential hub for sheep skin processing.
Officials from the Uzbek government and experts from Pakistan’s leather industry convened in Samarkand to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation in sheep skin processing, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The meeting, initiated by the Uzcharmsanoat Association and supported by the regional administration, focused on establishing concrete plans and mechanisms to enhance collaboration between the two countries.
The Samarkand region was highlighted as a promising hub for leather industry development, thanks to its strategic geographic location, robust livestock sector, and rich raw material resources. Representatives from the regional administration, relevant ministries, and Uzcharmsanoat presented comprehensive investment opportunities available in the area.
The Pakistani delegation stressed the urgent need for reliable and consistent supplies of raw materials, particularly sheep skins, to support their leather manufacturing operations.
Following detailed discussions, both parties agreed on a practical first step: sending a shipment of sheep skin samples to Pakistan for trial processing and quality evaluation against technical standards.
“We have confirmed that not only does the region possess the necessary raw materials, but it also offers favorable conditions for localizing production. If the samples meet our requirements, we are prepared to consider establishing processing facilities directly in Uzbekistan,” stated a Pakistani delegation representative.
In the coming weeks, specialists from Pakistan will arrive in Uzbekistan to oversee the collection and sorting of sheep skins in accordance with their company standards. The prepared samples will then be sent to Pakistan for further processing.
