Uzbek Leader, Turkmen People’s Council Chairman Renew Commitment to Central Asian Partnership

Upon arriving in Turkmenbashi, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has met with National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to discuss enhancing neighborly relations and their strategic partnership, building on agreements from their April Samarkand meeting.

At the start of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev congratulated Berdimuhamedov on the successful organization of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, highlighting the vital importance of the conference’s agenda for the sustainable development of Central Asia, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum of multifaceted cooperation based on friendship, mutual trust, and shared interests.

Since the beginning of the year, bilateral trade turnover has reached $600 million, with expanding cooperation in key sectors including industry, energy, transport, agriculture, and water management.

Plans are underway to establish a joint border trade zone named “Shavat - Dashoguz”, while active interregional contacts and humanitarian exchanges continue to flourish.

In preparation for upcoming high-level meetings, a series of sessions involving intergovernmental commissions, the Business Council, the Regional Forum, and cultural events have been scheduled.

The leaders also exchanged detailed views on the agenda of the UN Conference, as well as the upcoming Seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State, planned for this autumn in Tashkent.
