Uzbek President to Join Key Environmental Summit in Kazakhstan

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is set to visit Astana, Kazakhstan, on April 21-22 at the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as regional leaders gather for a major environmental summit shaping Central Asia’s future.

The visit will center on the Regional Environmental Summit and a high-level meeting of the Council of Heads of State-Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea - a key platform tackling one of the region’s most pressing ecological crises, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Leaders are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation to address shared challenges, including climate change, water security, and sustainable development across Central Asia.

During the summit, Mirziyoyev will outline Uzbekistan’s position and vision on environmental issues, while also taking part in a specialized exhibition showcasing national environmental initiatives.

The gathering is part of the broader Regional Environmental Summit 2026, a new UN-backed dialogue platform aimed at forging joint solutions and a unified regional strategy.

With heads of state, government officials, and international organizations in attendance, the summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of a package of key agreements - signaling a stronger, more coordinated approach to the region’s environmental future.
