Uzbekistan and Hong Kong Move Closer to Visa-Free Travel

Travel between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong could soon become much easier as the two sides move toward introducing a mutual visa-free regime for stays of up to 30 days.

The development follows a meeting between Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and Chief Executive of Hong Kong John Lee Ka-chiu, during which officials exchanged diplomatic notes confirming their intention to finalize an intergovernmental agreement on visa-free travel, The Caspian Post reports via Gazeta.uz.

The proposed arrangement would allow citizens of both Uzbekistan and Hong Kong to visit each other's territories without a visa for short-term stays, significantly simplifying travel procedures.

The initiative is aimed at boosting tourism, expanding business opportunities, and strengthening people-to-people ties between the two economies. The agreement is also expected to encourage greater cooperation in trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange.

If approved, the visa-free regime would mark another step in Uzbekistan’s efforts to expand international connectivity and facilitate global travel for its citizens, while opening new opportunities for visitors and businesses from Hong Kong.
