Uzbekistan and the EU are taking their cooperation to a new level with the signing of an enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, marking a major milestone in their bilateral relations.
The new pact replaces the 1996 agreement, creating a modern framework for political dialogue and economic collaboration built on the principles of pragmatism and mutual benefit. It aims to reduce trade barriers, simplify customs procedures, and liberalize services, aligning Uzbekistan’s economy more closely with global standards, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
For Uzbekistan, the deal opens doors to expand exports to European markets, attract foreign direct investment, and deepen integration into the World Trade Organization. The agreement also encourages the use of GSP+ trade preferences and promotes production practices that meet international quality standards.
Beyond economics, the partnership emphasizes human rights, judicial independence, gender equality, and support for civil society, reinforcing Uzbekistan’s reform agenda and boosting international trust.
By focusing on economic pragmatism over geopolitics, the new agreement sets the stage for a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership between Uzbekistan and the EU.
