Uzbekistan Hosts Ramadan Iftar Events Abroad

During Ramadan, Uzbekistan has organized a series of iftar programs (the meal eaten after sunset during Ramadan) for its citizens living abroad, spanning 10 countries and 50 cities, including major hubs in Russia, US, South Korea, and the Middle East.

The events are arranged by Uzbek diplomatic missions with support from religious authorities and compatriot associations. The initiative aims to maintain ties with the homeland and create social and spiritual spaces for Uzbeks living abroad, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Iftars are being held in cities including Mecca, Medina, Seoul, Istanbul, Ankara, Cairo, Amman, Kuala Lumpur, Washington, New York, Toronto, and others. In Russia, programs are organized in 20 cities, while in the U.S. events take place in 10 cities, including 15 separate gatherings in six locations.

The program is coordinated by Uzbek diplomatic missions in partnership with the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan and the Committee for Religious Affairs. Events feature scholars and imams (the person who leads prayers in a mosque), focusing on spiritual support and strengthening national identity.

Additional iftars, supported by Uzbek community associations, are planned to be held in cities such as Dallas, Philadelphia, Orlando, Washington, Mecca, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, and Yekaterinburg. Several gatherings have already taken place in cities across Korea, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Malaysia, assisting migrants and students stay connected with their homeland regardless of distance.
