Abat Fayzullayev, the first Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Malta, with residence in Rome, presented his credentials to the President of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono.
At the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation, focusing on strengthening collaboration within international organizations, including the UN and the OSCE, The Caspian Post reports citing UzA.
President Myriam Spiteri Debono noted the increasing engagement between the two countries and emphasized the importance of Uzbekistan’s open and pragmatic foreign policy.

Over the past year, relations between Uzbekistan and Malta have gained new momentum. In September 2024, the foreign ministers of both countries held their first bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. In January 2025, Malta appointed an Ambassador to Uzbekistan, with residence in Moscow, and the first round of consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries took place in Valletta.
It is worth noting that Abat Fayzullayev has served as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Italy since November 2023 and is also the country’s Permanent Representative to international organizations in Rome (FAO, WHO, UNODC). Since December 2024, he has been accredited as Uzbekistan’s first Ambassador to Cyprus. From 2020 to 2023, he headed Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Austria, concurrently serving as Ambassador to Hungary and Permanent Representative to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna.
