A major boost for higher education and digital skills development is coming to Uzbekistan as Fergana region prepares to launch joint academic programs with South Korea’s renowned Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech).
The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Fergana regional governor Khayrullo Bozorov and SeoulTech President Dong Hwan Kim on the sidelines of the Tashkent International Investment Forum. Representatives of South Korean technology company AHA Co., Ltd and several investors also took part in the talks, The Caspian Post reports via UzDaily.
The discussions focused on expanding educational cooperation, strengthening university partnerships, and training highly qualified specialists to meet the growing demands of the modern labor market.
A key priority is the launch of joint degree and educational programs in artificial intelligence and information technology in partnership with Fergana State Technical University and Kokand University. The parties also explored career guidance initiatives to help school graduates prepare for university studies and future careers in high-demand technology fields.
Another major topic was the integration of science, education, and industry. Plans were discussed to deepen cooperation with the Fergana regional branch of IT Park, creating new opportunities for training specialists in digital technologies, software development, and artificial intelligence.
Investors participating in the meeting proposed several initiatives aimed at strengthening the innovation ecosystem, including startup support programs, student grants, expanded academic exchanges, and the introduction of dual-education models that combine classroom learning with practical industry experience.
Beyond education and technology, the talks touched on potential cooperation in manufacturing, including elevator production projects, the development of business associations, and possible partnerships between Uzbekistan’s Neftchi football club and South Korean football teams.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between SeoulTech, Fergana State Technical University, and the Fergana regional branch of IT Park, laying the foundation for long-term academic and technological cooperation.
As part of the visit, AHA Co., Ltd executive Goo Ki-Do was appointed Special Advisor to the Governor of Fergana Region on artificial intelligence and digitalization.
The South Korean delegation also toured several of Fergana’s modern facilities, including Fergana Expo, IT Park, and the Burhanuddin al-Marghinani Scientific and Educational Center, praising the region’s rapidly developing infrastructure and innovation environment.
