Uzbekistan, Tajikistan Open New Crossings to Ease Travel and Boost Tourism

The opening of two additional border crossing points is set to make travel between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan easier for both passengers and drivers.

The new crossings - Bekabad Auto and Khavasobod - are now operational, providing services for citizens of third countries and vehicles, The Caspian Post reports per Tajik media.

Uzbekistan’s Customs Committee confirmed that the checkpoints will operate on a permanent basis.

From August 10, 2025, citizens of third countries and vehicles are permitted to pass through these checkpoints.

Spokesman for the Uzbek Customs Committee Khusan Tangriev noted that the crossings are functioning regularly.

This expansion gives travelers and drivers more options for crossing the border between the two countries.

Under an intergovernmental agreement signed on June 5, 2002, there are currently 17 official checkpoints along the Uzbekistan-Tajikistan border, most of which have international status and operate 24/7.

According to Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Agency, from January to May 2025, 2.7 million Uzbek citizens traveled abroad for tourism purposes, with over half a million visiting Tajikistan - making it the second most popular destination for Uzbek tourists.
