EU Launches New Security Mission in Armenia to Counter Hybrid Threats

The European Union has officially launched the EU Partnership Mission in Armenia (EUPM Armenia) to help strengthen the country's resilience against hybrid threats and emerging security challenges.

Operating under the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), the civilian advisory mission will support Armenian authorities in tackling risks such as cyberattacks, foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI), and illicit financial flows, The Caspian Post reports via EU Council.

The mission, formally established on April 21, 2026, will provide strategic advice, technical expertise, and institutional capacity-building to government agencies, assisting Armenia to improve its ability to prevent and respond to complex security threats.

EUPM Armenia will also establish a dedicated project unit to implement targeted initiatives in close cooperation with international partners while promoting a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to security.

The EU emphasized that the mission is non-executive and will not participate in the Armenian government's decision-making processes, serving solely in an advisory and capacity-building role.
