US Has No Economic Interests in South Caucasus, Says Armenia's Ex-President

During a press conference on Tuesday, Robert Kocharyan, the second President of Armenia, stated that the United States has no economic interests in the South Caucasus region.

“What interest does the US have? There’s simply no economic interest; look at the trade figures. Moreover, the US is pursuing a policy of containing China, The Caspian Post reports citing Armenian media.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announces in China that the corridor [the Trump route] is very important for connecting China with Europe. Now the Middle Corridor goes that way, and part of the goods will go along this [new] route. And here there’s an inconsistency - between US policy toward China and the construction of a corridor that will mainly serve the export of Chinese goods. This also raises questions that lead to certain conclusions about the real objectives,” Kocharyan said.

According to him, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan is giving away everything possible - practically, he has become “Mother Teresa” at Armenia’s expense.

What is happening is part of a major geopolitical game, in which Armenia - or rather, the prime minister - plays the role of the ball, the second president added.
