Azerbaijan Airlines Ranks Among Top Five Airlines in Georgian Airspace

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has secured a position among the top five airlines operating in Georgian airspace, according to passenger traffic figures for the first half of 2025.

The data, released by the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia, highlights AZAL’s transport of 222,237 passengers between Azerbaijan and Georgia from January to June, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

Topping the list of carriers was Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air, which flew 642,956 passengers during the six-month period. Pegasus Airlines followed with 284,984 passengers, while Georgian Airways and Turkish Airlines carried 272,568 and 268,959 passengers, respectively. AZAL ranked fifth, reflecting its growing presence in regional air travel.

Overall, Georgian airports handled a total of 3.5 million passengers in the first half of 2025 - a 14 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. The growth underscores a strong post-pandemic recovery and increasing demand for both regional and international travel.

Approximately 17,000 flights were operated across Georgian airports during the reporting period, including 12,857 regular commercial flights and 3,874 charter services.

In addition to the surge in passenger traffic, air cargo volume also experienced notable growth. A total of 16,550 tons of cargo were transported via Georgian airspace in the first six months of the year - a 50 per cent rise year-on-year, highlighting the country’s expanding role as a regional logistics and aviation hub.
