Azerbaijan and Latvia are taking their healthcare and medical science collaboration to the next level, focusing on knowledge exchange, digital healthcare development, and medical tourism.
A meeting was held at the Azerbaijani Health Ministry with Latvia’s Health Minister Hosams Abu Meri, who is in Azerbaijan on a working trip, The Caspian Post reports via the Azerbaijani Health Ministry.
The session was also attended by Edgars Skuja, Latvia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
During the discussion, conducted in a spirit of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding, the two sides reviewed the current state of Azerbaijani-Latvian cooperation in healthcare and medical science, as well as potential avenues for further collaboration.
Welcoming the guests, Azerbaijani Health Minister Teymur Musayev highlighted the strong ties between the two countries across multiple sectors, including healthcare and medical science.
“To enhance the efficiency of our healthcare systems, all the necessary tools for cooperation in medical education are in place. Additionally, there are optimal conditions for exchanging modern methodologies and scientific-practical knowledge in the field of continuous professional development for medical specialists,” Musayev said.
Musayev also emphasized digitalization as a key priority for Azerbaijan’s healthcare sector and noted Latvia’s significant progress in this area. “Studying Latvia’s experience in digital healthcare can be very useful for us,” he added.
The minister further highlighted opportunities for cooperation in medical tourism. “Mineral water sources and other resort-recreational resources attract many tourists to both Azerbaijan and Latvia. Ensuring access to sanatorium and spa treatments for citizens of both countries is therefore an important issue,” Musayev said.
While expressing gratitude to his hosts for the warm reception, Hosams Abu Meri underscored the importance of such meetings for strengthening Azerbaijani-Latvian healthcare relations and sharing expertise. He expressed hope that cooperation between the two ministries would continue on a higher level.
Other topics of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
