Azerbaijan's capital Baku and Türkiye's Izmir city are celebrating 40 years of their sister city partnership with vibrant cultural events held in Türkiye.
As part of the “Days of Azerbaijan” in Izmir, a special concert titled “Songs of Brotherhood” brought together audiences with performances by world-renowned mugham master Alim Gasimov and Honored Artist Fargana Gasimova, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
The event, co-organized by the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Azerbaijan’s Consul General Narmina Mustafayeva and Izmir Mayor Cemil Tugay emphasized that the sister city agreement reflects deep historical and cultural ties that go far beyond a formal partnership.
Ahead of the concert, officials toured an exhibition featuring historical photographs of both cities, showcasing decades of shared heritage and cooperation.
The sister city agreement between Baku and Izmir was originally signed on April 29, 1986, laying the foundation for a long-standing relationship that continues to grow through cultural exchange and mutual support.
