Azerbaijan Strengthens Pediatric Healthcare Ties with Europe’s Leading Children’s Hospital

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health, and the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital of the Holy See have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in pediatric healthcare and medical research.

The agreement was signed during the visit of Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Executive Director of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, to the Holy See, The Caspian Post informs via local media.

The memorandum was officially signed by Alakbarov and Tiziano Onesti, Head of Bambino Gesù Hospital.

The collaboration will include training and educational programs with the European medical institution, joint research in molecular genetics and personalized medicine, and support in diagnosing and treating complex clinical cases not currently treatable in Azerbaijan.

Other areas of cooperation focus on improving the professional skills of Azerbaijani pediatric medical personnel, conducting joint scientific and clinical activities in molecular genetics, clinical diagnostics, and rare diseases, and expanding the use of genomic diagnostics and personalized medicine approaches in the country.

Founded in 1869, Bambino Gesù Hospital is Europe’s largest pediatric hospital and research center. It is authorized to perform all types of pediatric organ, cell, and tissue transplants and serves as the Italian headquarters for “Orphanet,” the world’s largest rare disease database, linking participants from over 40 countries.
