Azerbaijani, Uzbek Presidents Discuss Regional Peace, Economic Cooperation

On August 9, Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan held a phone conversation focusing on recent diplomatic achievements, regional peace efforts, and expanding economic cooperation between their countries.

During the call, the leaders warmly recalled President Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Azerbaijan in early July, highlighting the productive discussions and agreements reached, The Caspian Post reports citing the Azertag.

They emphasised the importance of key documents signed during President Aliyev’s visit to the United States, notably the Joint Declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia’s Prime Minister, witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as other agreements critical for ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region. Both presidents agreed that these steps lay the groundwork for the signing and ratification of a final peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

President Aliyev underscored the special role of President Trump in facilitating these outcomes and stressed the significance of agreements concerning regional transport links. President Mirziyoyev congratulated President Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people on these accomplishments, recognizing their positive impact on regional development.

The conversation also focused on strengthening mutual investments, including Uzbekistan’s projects in Karabakh and the Production Sharing Agreement signed between SOCAR, the “Uzbekneftegaz” Consortium, and the Government of Uzbekistan.
