Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said that Georgia secured guarantees for the supply of more than 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan at favorable prices.
Kobakhidze made these remarks while presenting the government's annual report to parliament, The Caspian Post reports via Report.
He noted that the agreement was reached following successful negotiations with Azerbaijan and represents a major step toward strengthening Georgia’s long-term energy security.
“We held extremely important talks with our friendly country, Azerbaijan, on gas supplies, which are of fundamental importance to Georgia. As a result, we received guarantees for the supply of more than 2 billion cubic meters of gas at a favorable price,” the prime minister said.
Kobakhidze noted that the deal comes as Georgia continues expanding its gas infrastructure. During the reporting period, more than 60 settlements were connected to the national gas distribution network, providing access to natural gas for around 10,000 additional households.
The prime minister emphasized that reliable gas supplies remain a strategic priority for the country and described the agreement with Azerbaijan as a key factor in enhancing Georgia’s energy stability.
Azerbaijan has long been one of Georgia’s principal energy partners, supplying much of the natural gas consumed in the country and playing a crucial role in regional energy cooperation.
