Japan to Host C5+1 Summit with Central Asian Leaders

Japan plans to hold a C5+1 summit with the five Central Asian countries on December 19-20 in Tokyo.

The agenda may include bilateral talks between Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and regional leaders, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Taro Aso, Vice President of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, emphasized the importance of increasing Tokyo’s diplomatic engagement in the region amid recent Central Asian summits with Russia, China, and the US.

The Kyrgyz presidential press service will announce details of President Sadyr Japarov’s visit later. The summit marks a renewed effort to strengthen relations with resource-rich Central Asian states, enhance economic security, and expand cooperation across multiple sectors, following a canceled 2024 meeting that was postponed due to earthquake warnings.
