Turkmenistan Leads Central Asia in Fastest Customs Processing

Turkmenistan’s customs service has topped Central Asia in efficiency, playing a key role in international transport logistics, according to research by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Export and transit procedures at Turkmen border crossings cost less time and money than in neighboring countries, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.

Between August and October 2025, vehicles cleared customs at Turkmen road checkpoints in Garabogaz, Farab, and Dashoguz in just 37 minutes on average-a regional record. By comparison, similar procedures take 1 hour 30 minutes in Kazakhstan, 1 hour 10 minutes in Uzbekistan, and even longer in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Queue times are also minimal, averaging 35 minutes at Turkmen checkpoints, while waits reach 12 hours 20 minutes in Uzbekistan and over two days in Kazakhstan.

These results highlight Turkmenistan’s growing role as a reliable transit hub between Asia and Europe, supported by advanced infrastructure, “green corridors,” and digital customs solutions.
