Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali informed journalists in Astrakhan on Friday that a contract is being prepared for the supply of Russian gas to Iran.
"We are now preparing the contract. There is no problem from Iran's side. We have already held negotiations with high-ranking Russian officials. If we sign this contract, we can then begin to implement this project. As for technical issues, the project's implementation - pipelines [construction] and so on, will probably take two to three years," he said, The Caspian Post reports, citing Interfax.
Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev said in April 2025 that at the first stage, Russian gas supplies to Iran via existing infrastructure through Azerbaijan could amount to up to 1.8 billion cubic meters per year. The possibility of commencing supplies as early as 2025 was allowed for. The potential is estimated at 55 bcm per year.
