Georgia Joins Belgrade Declaration of EU Candidate Countries

Georgia's Parliament has joined the Belgrade Declaration adopted by countries seeking membership in the European Union, reaffirming its commitment to closer cooperation with fellow EU candidate states.

The declaration was approved at the first Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of EU Candidate Countries, held in Belgrade, The Caspian Post reports via Georgia Online.

The document highlights the crucial role of national parliaments in advancing the European integration process and strengthening democratic institutions throughout the accession journey.

Participants also agreed to hold annual meetings of parliamentary speakers to deepen political dialogue, exchange best practices, and expand cooperation among EU candidate countries.

The next Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of EU candidate states is scheduled to take place in Moldova in 2027, continuing efforts to enhance coordination and support on the path toward European Union membership.
