Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili has announced that the country is looking to attract investment from Azerbaijan as it moves forward with the development of the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port.

Speaking at a government briefing, Kvrivishvili said Georgia has decided to develop the port under the internationally recognized "landlord" model, under which the state will retain ownership of the core maritime and port infrastructure while overseeing its development and management, The Caspian Post reports via 1tv.ge.

The minister noted that the new approach will allow Georgia to cooperate with multiple countries and private companies simultaneously, rather than relying on a single lead investor as originally planned. The government believes this model will strengthen cargo flows and maximize the port's commercial potential.

"The government's primary goal is to transform the Anaklia Port into an international hub for investment, trade, and logistics by working closely with partner countries and taking their interests into account," Kvrivishvili said.

She added that the Georgian government will finance the construction of the road and railway links connecting the port to the national transport network, while international investors and private operators will be invited to build and operate the container terminal and bulk cargo terminal.

Kvrivishvili emphasized that Georgia particularly welcomes investment from countries participating in the Middle Corridor, including Azerbaijan, China, and the nations of Central Asia.

She said the new strategy would strengthen Georgia's national interests, create new economic opportunities, and position the country as one of the key transport and logistics hubs along the Middle Corridor, the trade route linking Asia and Europe.
