Uzbekistan is considering investing in Georgia's largest deep-sea port project as the two countries explore ways to strengthen regional trade and transport links.
The proposal was discussed during a visit by Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, who toured Georgia's key transport infrastructure, including the ports of Anaklia Port, Poti Port, and Port of Batumi, as well as the Poti Free Industrial Zone, The Caspian Post reports via the Uzbek Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade.
A major focus of the visit was expanding Uzbekistan's export and import operations through Georgia's Black Sea corridor.
Discussions at Anaklia centered on the possible participation of Uzbek companies in developing Georgia's flagship deep-water port. Once completed, the port is expected to accommodate all classes of cargo vessels and become a key hub on international trade routes, including the emerging China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan transport corridor.
At Poti, the two sides explored opportunities to establish warehouse and terminal facilities for Uzbek export and import cargo, while similar cooperation was discussed during meetings at the Port of Batumi, which is seen as an important gateway for Black Sea shipping.
The visit concluded with both sides identifying priority areas for cooperation. Plans include drafting bilateral agreements and establishing a consortium involving Uzbek companies to support future investment and infrastructure development.
