Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, reaffirmed on Monday that “no one will succeed in enslaving” Georgia or “turning it into a colony” under the current government.
In his remarks, Kaladze said he hoped relations with the United States would be “rebooted” and “true friendship and partnership” would be established under the incoming US administration, The Caspian Post reports, citing Georgian media.
“Georgia is an independent country. Someone is seeking to enslave our country and make it a colony, [but] no one will succeed. At least, under the Georgian Dream Government”, he said.
“We are defending the gains that our previous generations earned with blood - this is the independence and sovereignty of the country. We will not allow anyone to sacrifice my country and our people for the interests of their country. When we talk about normalising relations, it should be mutual”, the ruling party official noted.”
“As for the relationship with the current US administration, we have seen very wrong decisions. We have heard a lot of wrong statements that were based on lies, on falsehoods”, he claimed.
“It is disappointing that even though you have a strategic partnership with the country, we did not have direct flights, Georgians had to either enter from Mexico or invent something to enter America. If you look at the statistics, even if we compare it with neighbouring countries, the fewest visas were issued to Georgian citizens”, he continued.
Kaladze further described the development as “not the correct attitude”, adding he hoped there would be “real friendship and truly strategic relations” established under the Trump administration.
