Georgian and Turkish Defense Ministers Meet at Trilateral Ministerial Summit

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Georgia, Irakli Chikovani, is currently on an official visit to Türkiye. During his visit, he is participating in the Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Georgia Trilateral Defense Ministerial, as reported by the Georgian Ministry of Defense.

This meeting aims to strengthen defense cooperation and coordination among the three countries, The Caspian Post reports citing Georgian media.

During the visit, Chikovani held a bilateral meeting with Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler. He expressed gratitude for Türkiye’s unwavering support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also highlighting Türkiye’s material, technical, and financial assistance in strengthening Georgia’s Defense Forces over the years.

The Minister underscored Türkiye’s role in implementing initiatives under the Substantive NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP).

The sides discussed the long-standing and steadily developing defense cooperation between the two countries, which has been ongoing for more than two decades. A key focus of the talks was the global security environment, the situation in the Black Sea region, and related challenges. Chikovani stressed the importance of deepening strategic cooperation with Türkiye in this context.

The meeting also noted the positive dynamics of bilateral relations, reflected in frequent high-level visits, including the recent official visit of the President of Georgia to Türkiye.

The trilateral ministerial is hosted on a rotational basis by the three participating states. Georgia hosted the meeting in 2024, while this year’s gathering is taking place in Ankara.
