The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that the US-Israel-Iran war could significantly increase global hunger, pushing the number of people at risk of famine by 45 million to over 360 million, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said in Washington.

Georgieva made the remarks while delivering a speech ahead of the spring meeting of the IMF and World Bank governing bodies, scheduled for next week, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

She explained that the negative impacts of the conflict would create "food insecurity for another 45 million people due to transport disruptions," raising the total number of people facing hunger to over 360 million.

Georgieva also noted that the situation could worsen over time because of rising fertilizer prices.
