The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration has announced that Iran’s imports of goods from Turkmenistan fell significantly in the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 22, 2025), decreasing by 59.4 per cent in value and 56.7 per cent in volume compared to the same period last year (March 20-July 21, 2024).
During this period, Iran imported goods from Turkmenistan worth $2.47 million, totaling 1,840 tons, down from 4,260 tons valued at $6.1 million in the same period last year, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
The main imports included petroleum coke, cotton fibers, textile substrates, and other products.
At the same time, non-oil trade between Iran and Turkmenistan reached $196 million with a total volume of 521,000 tons, representing a 26 per cent increase in value and a 16.4 per cent growth in volume compared to the same period in 2024.
Overall, Iran’s total imports during the first four months of the Iranian year amounted to $17.6 billion, with a total weight of 12.2 million tons, reflecting a 14.2 per cent decline in value and a 3.23 per cent decrease in volume year-on-year.
Experts note that Iran’s import strategy emphasizes essential goods for domestic consumption, while regulatory measures limit imports of products already produced locally, ensuring support for domestic industries.
