Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref has said that Iran is set to enhance cooperation with neighboring and regional countries in the transit sector, capitalizing on its unique geographic position at the junction of Asia, Europe, and Africa.
This ambition was outlined by Aref ahead of his visit to Turkmenistan for the Third Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
“Iran maintains strong relations with these countries, and the purpose of this visit is to explore ways to deepen cooperation, especially in transportation and logistics,” Aref said.
Thanks to its strategic location, Iran is well-positioned to serve as a reliable transit hub for 32 landlocked developing countries worldwide, including eight nations from the Middle East and Central Asia that lack direct access to open seas. Aref emphasized that developing international transport corridors through Iran would yield mutual benefits for all regional countries.
During his Turkmenistan visit, Aref is scheduled to discuss these and other critical topics. His agenda includes meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Turkmenistan’s leadership, and several other heads of state.
