The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration has announced that Iran’s imports from Georgia saw a sharp decline in the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 22, 2025), dropping by 54.4 per cent in value and 63.4 per cent in volume compared to the same period last year.
During this period, Iran imported roughly 7,430 tons of goods from Georgia, valued at $23.7 million, down from 20,300 tons worth $52 million in the same period in 2024, The Caspian Post informs via local media.
The main imports included agricultural products, timber, various equipment and spare parts, and other items.
Overall trade turnover between Iran and Georgia reached $89.4 million, with a total weight of 160,000 tons, representing a 30.3 per cent decline in value and a 20.3 per cent decrease in volume compared to the same period last year.
On a broader scale, Iran’s total imports for the first four months of the Iranian year amounted to $17.6 billion, with a total weight of 12.2 million tons, showing a 14.2 per cent drop in value and a 3.23 per cent decline in volume year-on-year.
Experts note that Iran’s import policy focuses on essential goods for domestic consumption, while imports of products already produced within the country are subject to restrictions.
