Georgia’s Population Hits 3.91 Million

The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) has released preliminary findings from the 2024 Population and Agricultural Census.

According to the data, as of November 14, 2024, Georgia’s population stood at 3.91 million, of which 53% (2.08 million) were women and 47% (1.83 million) were men, The Caspian Post reports, citing Georgian media.

Geostat reported that 93.4% (3.65 million) of those recorded are Georgian citizens, while up to 6.6% are foreign citizens permanently residing in the country.

The census, conducted between November 14 and December 31, 2024, covered the entire territory of Georgia except for the occupied regions. The “critical moment” of population calculation was set at midnight on November 13-14, 2024.

In line with international methodology, the census included all Georgian citizens permanently living in the country, as well as foreign nationals and stateless persons who had resided in Georgia for more than 12 months.

For the first time, data collection was carried out electronically using modern technologies. The process consisted of two stages: self-registration (November 14-23) and computer-assisted personal interviews (November 29-December 31).

The preliminary results, published on June 25, 2025, include aggregated information on population distribution by regions, municipalities, gender, and urban-rural settlements. Geostat emphasized that the data is still undergoing validation using administrative sources.

The final results of the 2024 Population and Agricultural Census are expected to be published in June 2026.

“Due to high public interest, Geostat will continue to provide updates on the progress of data processing,” the agency announced.
