The Iranian parliament has begun drafting a plan to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) following efforts by the UK, France, and Germany to reimpose UN sanctions on Tehran over its nuclear program.

Iranian lawmaker Hossein-Ali Haji-Deligani said the withdrawal plan will be presented to lawmakers tomorrow (August 30) and is expected to be approved next week, The Caspian Post reports via Israeli media.

“These are the consequences of activating the snapback mechanism,” he said, accusing the E3 countries of being “the source of many problems in the world.”

He added that “other measures that are unfortunate for the key countries of the snapback will also be taken.”

Iran first warned in July that it would leave the NPT-one of the last remaining safeguards over its nuclear activities-if snapback sanctions were reinstated, raising tensions over the future of global nuclear oversight.
