Iran says it is working with Oman on a new framework to regulate maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important shipping routes.
Speaking at the World Peace Forum in Beijing, Iran's ambassador to China, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, said Tehran is considering new navigation rules that could include special provisions for countries that supported Iran during difficult periods, The Caspian Post reports via The Economic Times.
"We will take into account the special relationship with countries that were friendly and stood by us in difficult times," the ambassador said.
Fazli said that Iran and Oman are jointly developing a new transit management system for the strategic waterway. The proposed framework is expected to cover maritime security, vessel traffic management, transit oversight, and environmental protection standards.
