A senior Iranian delegation has arrived in Switzerland for technical negotiations with the US, marking a new phase in efforts to implement the recently signed memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
The Iranian delegation traveled aboard an aircraft bearing the inscription “Minab-168,” commemorating 168 children reportedly killed in a US strike on a school in the city of Minab, The Caspian Post reports via Fars News.
Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the arrival of the delegation and confirmed that the meeting in Bürgenstock is being held as part of the implementation process of the memorandum signed between the US and Iran.
The Iranian delegation includes Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Deputy Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Bagheri, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati, as well as representatives from the oil sector and the diplomatic corps.
The US delegation is expected to be led by Vice President JD Vance.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that the purpose of the talks is to monitor Washington’s implementation of its commitments under the agreement. He noted that a previously planned meeting on June 19 was canceled because the memorandum had been signed remotely.
The negotiations are being closely watched as both sides seek to address outstanding issues and build confidence following months of heightened tensions. The discussions are expected to focus on practical steps for implementing the agreement and ensuring compliance with its provisions.
