Air Taxis May Soon Connect Almaty, Konayev and Alatau in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan could launch passenger and cargo aerotaxi services between Alatau, Almaty International Airport, and the city of Konayev as early as 2027, as the country moves forward with plans to introduce next-generation urban air mobility.

Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev said full-scale testing of aerotaxis is expected to begin in 2026, while the Transport Ministry has already prepared temporary regulations and issued permits for trial flights, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

Authorities and aviation experts are currently evaluating possible routes linking Almaty Airport, Almaty railway station, Konayev, and the Kapshagai reservoir.

Special attention is being given to safety issues, including wind conditions, flight altitudes, terrain features, aeromagnetic zones, and high-voltage power lines.

Kazakhstan is working with leading aerotaxi companies and specialists from China and the United States, countries considered global leaders in the rapidly developing air taxi industry.

The ambitious project will be financed entirely through private investment and local companies, without using state budget funds.

The future aerotaxi network is expected to transport both passengers and cargo, potentially transforming mobility and logistics around Almaty and nearby regions.

The announcement comes shortly after Kazakhstan launched its first air taxi test flights in Alatau City on May 19, signaling the country’s growing interest in advanced transportation technologies.
