The spirit of Nauryz has come alive in Beijing as the Chinese capital hosted a colorful NAURYZFEST, bringing together tradition, culture, and community in a grand celebration of spring.
At the heart of the festival stood a traditional Kazakh yurt, guarded by batyrs in full national armor, creating an authentic atmosphere of the Great Steppe. The event blended charity, cuisine, and live performances, offering visitors a rich cultural experience, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The Embassy of Kazakhstan in China organized a charity fair alongside an exhibition of Kazakhstan-made products, where guests explored handcrafted items by local artisans and sampled traditional delicacies.
Opening the event, Ambassador Shahrat Nuryshev highlighted the deeper meaning of Nauryz, emphasizing values of kindness, charity, and harmony with nature. He noted that the steppe tulip-symbolizing renewal-has become a powerful emblem of the holiday, especially as celebrations unfold during the Year of Kazakh-Chinese Culture.
A touching highlight was the traditional Tusau Kesu ceremony, led by the ambassador for three young children, symbolizing their first confident steps into the future.
The festival’s lively atmosphere was amplified by performances from Qazaqconcert artists, including the renowned Astana Sazy and the Gulder, captivating audiences with music and dance.
Visitors also joined in traditional games such as asyq atu (a traditional Kazakh national game, often described as "knucklebone shooting"), arqan tartu (a traditional Kazakh and Kyrgyz game that means "tug of war"), and togyz qumalaq (a traditional Kazakh mathematical board game, often called the "chess of the steppes" or "shepherd's algebra"), while the event drew diplomats, local residents, and members of the Kazakh diaspora-turning the celebration into a vibrant symbol of cultural connection between Kazakhstan and China.
