Kazakhstan's Ministry of Trade and Integration has dismissed reports claiming that recent US airstrikes in Iran struck an area of the Iranian port leased by Kazakhstan, seeking to ease concerns over the country's strategic logistics projects.
Media reports suggesting that "a U.S. airstrike destroyed a port recently leased by Kazakhstan" are false, The Caspian Post reports via Tengrinews.kz.
"There were no airstrikes on the territory leased by Kazakhstan," the ministry said, emphasizing that the country's infrastructure project in Iran remains unaffected.
The clarification comes after Kazakhstan and Iran signed an agreement to build a Kazakh logistics terminal at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, a key gateway for regional trade. Under the deal, Iran will provide Kazakhstan with land for the construction and long-term operation of the terminal.
The project is considered an important part of Kazakhstan's efforts to diversify its international transport routes and expand access to global markets through the Persian Gulf.
