The Days of Kazakh Cinema have officially begun in Dushanbe, bringing audiences in Tajikistan a selection of the most acclaimed works by Kazakh filmmakers in recent years.
In his opening remarks, Kazakh Ambassador Valikhan Turekhanov highlighted that Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are bound not only by a close strategic partnership, but also by shared spiritual values and centuries-old traditions of friendship and respect, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
He emphasized that cinema plays a vital role in strengthening these ties and fostering deeper cultural dialogue between the two nations.
“Today, we present contemporary Kazakh films created by talented directors and actors that reflect the richness of our national culture, history, spirit, and modern life,” the diplomat said.
Tajikfilm studio director Makhmadsaid Shokhiyon praised Kazakh cinema for its professionalism, depth, and sincerity, noting that films from Kazakhstan consistently win international awards and resonate deeply with Tajik audiences.
The festival opened with the film Time of Heroes, directed by Serikbol Utepbergenov. Actress Zarina Khadzhimetova, who plays the leading female role, said the film tells a story of courage, loyalty, family values, and love, adding that the team was delighted to share it with Tajik viewers.
Moviegoers will also get to enjoy The Wrestler. Kazhymukan - World Champion, a biopic about legendary Kazakh wrestler Kazhymukan Munaitpasov, and Amre, which follows the life of Amre Kashaubaev, the first Kazakh artist to introduce traditional folk singing to European audiences.
Earlier, it was reported that 119 films have been produced in Kazakhstan over the past five years, reflecting the country’s rapidly growing film industry and creative potential.
