Diplomatic Efforts Free Central Asians from Myanmar Traffickers

Citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan have been freed from human trafficking in Myanmar.

The victims had originally traveled to Thailand for work but were tricked into going to Myanmar, where they fell into the hands of traffickers, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

According to reports, they were forced to work in fraudulent call centers, and those who refused faced physical abuse and threats.

Uzbek citizens managed to alert their Consulate General in Bangkok, which led to the discovery that Kazakh and Kyrgyz citizens were also being held. Coordinated efforts by the diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, together with Thai and Myanmar authorities, ensured the victims’ release.

All those rescued have safely returned to their home countries.
