Authorities in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region have reported the discovery of more dead Caspian seals along the coastline of the Tupkaragan district, continuing to raise environmental concerns in the region.
Nearly 20 seal carcasses were discovered on June 1, 2026, along a coastal area between a desalination plant and the KCA shoreline near the village of Bautino, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
In addition to the seals, eight sturgeon carcasses were also found at the same location.
The regional Department of Ecology confirmed the incident, stating that the findings were reported by local monitoring services operating in the area.
Following the discovery, specialists from the laboratory and analytical control division collected water samples on June 2 along the coastline near Fort-Shevchenko in the Tupkaragan district.
Authorities said the results of the laboratory analysis will be made public after the testing process is completed.
