Two workers lost their lives following an explosion and fire during repair work at the Kamkor Locomotive LLP site in Aktobe, Kazakhstan.
The victims were rushed to hospital but succumbed to their injuries, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazinform.
The Emergency Situations Department of Aktobe Region reported that by the time firefighters arrived, the fire had already been extinguished, and therefore, their personnel did not take part in the firefighting efforts. The incident took place within the company’s workshop.
The regional health department confirmed that the injured workers were admitted to the intensive care unit of the multidisciplinary hospital and received comprehensive medical care under continuous supervision. Despite these efforts, their injuries were too severe to survive.
A special investigation commission has been established by the Labor Department of Aktobe Region in accordance with Kazakhstan’s Labor Code. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion and subsequent fire occurred during repair operations in the workshop.
In response to the tragedy, Kamkor Locomotive LLP announced it has taken all necessary steps to support the families of the deceased, including assistance with funeral and memorial arrangements. The company is also coordinating with financial institutions to address any outstanding debts linked to the victims. Furthermore, the company is considering providing additional financial aid to the families under the terms of the collective agreement.
