Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev has stated that a state visit by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Russia, scheduled for November, is expected to significantly energize bilateral relations.
The Kazakh foreign minister made these remarks following his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Kosherbayev emphasized: “Special attention is paid to the preparation for the upcoming visit of Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Russian Federation.”
He noted that, much like Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Kazakhstan a year ago, Tokayev’s upcoming visit is poised to serve as a major catalyst for advancing cooperation across all key sectors.
Kosherbayev shared that the talks included a comprehensive discussion of current bilateral ties and their future prospects, touching on both regional and global developments.
“Trusting relationship between the leaders of our states is key to developing bilateral ties; the regular high-level dialogue drives political trends across the entire range of cooperation between the countries and ensures progressive promotion of joint initiatives,” he said.
He further highlighted the deep-rooted partnership between Kazakhstan and Russia, describing it as a strategic alliance grounded in long-standing friendship and mutual respect. Kosherbayev also pointed out that Russia remains one of Kazakhstan’s largest trade and investment partners.
“In 2024, the mutual trade turnover exceeded 28 billion US dollars,” he stated, expressing optimism that this figure will grow even further in 2025.
Kosherbayev reiterated both countries’ shared ambition to boost bilateral trade to “up to 30 billion US dollars.”
To achieve that goal, the minister called for increased efforts, enhanced cooperation between foreign ministries and businesses, and the removal of existing trade barriers.
