Two experienced participants of the Almaty Half Marathon - 84-year-old Akkoyan Rsaliyev and 21-year-old Nurbol Akhmadi - died while covering the 21.1 km distance, The Caspian Post reports citing Almaty marathon website.
The organizers acted according to the regulations: medical and emergency services, as well as the police, worked promptly and in a timely manner. However, despite the measures taken, it was not possible to save the lives of the participants.
It should be noted that the half marathon took place on the morning of April 20 along the route from the First President's Park to the Central Stadium of Almaty.
A. Rsaliyev felt ill on the first kilometer of the distance on Al-Farabi Avenue, a minute later an ambulance team arrived to him, there was no pulse. "Preliminary conclusion - pulmonary embolism. There was chronic arterial hypertension," said doctor Alibek Khozhanazarov.
21-year-old N. Ahmadi lost consciousness at 16 km. Doctors tried to resuscitate him, but he died before the brigade arrived. "Preliminary diagnosis - pulmonary embolism, acute heart failure," said doctor Aigerim Esdauletova.
According to doctors, the exact cause of death of the participants will be known based on the results of a forensic medical examination, and its results will be communicated to relatives in the near future.
